A drama set centered around the war between Russia and Georgia, and focused on an American journalist, his cameraman, and a Georgian native who become caught in the crossfire. It's well worth the watch and makes you realize the terrible thing war is. It carries a moving message. It will not be on par with something like Private Ryan but it gives you more or less the same vibe because you start to wonder what is going to happen next. You start to sit on the edge of your seat.<br/><br/>This movie basically highlights the evils of war and engages without disappointment. There is some truth to it because this event happened but the characters are most definitely fictitious. It paints the general picture of what happened there. Terrible that these things still happen in this day and age. One would hope after thousands of years of conflicts that the human race would have become civilized by now.<br/><br/>I can't really understand the other negative reviews. I think the general idea that this event happened gives this movie a ring of truth to it making it more engaging, maybe even enlightening. I think this movie does a great job in highlighting what a terrible thing war is … and it engages you at the same time. After reading the other reviews I was quite surprised. None of them spoke on the extraordinary special effects. Whether the film is historically accurate is besides the point. Its a movie, meant to be entertaining, and it was. Val Kilmers role was minimal and lacked professionalism, however he has been in almost every 50 cent movie, so you shouldn't expect much in the first place. The scenes of violence were graphic and at no point do you yearn for more. Close ups of helicopters crashing and people losing limbs was entertainment enough. For a war movie, this was one of the best I've seen in regards to story and special effects. I feel as if the other reviewers are mad because of how their country was represented. Well, if your American you don't give a sheet about other countries,(as with me) and watching people get murdered was pretty entertaining. If your looking for an entertaining film, you have found it… and if your looking for a documentary, well your in the wrong place. All in all, I give this movie two thumbs up,(and I'm sure the people in Georgia would also if they hadn't lost their hands to explosives.) A tired old quote about truth being the first casualty of war is a strange way to start 5 Days of War, an overwrought drama that, whatever its good intentions, could hardly be said to aim for objectivity in its account of the 2008 conflict between Russia and Georgia.
